What Does the Multistakeholder Community Want from the UN Global Mechanism on Cybersecurity?
📅 25 March 2026 🕓 16:00–17:30 CET (Brussels time) 💻 Online | Microsoft Teams
As the UN Global Mechanism on cybersecurity (GMECH) prepares for its first organizational session, LetsTalkCyber invites you to join an open and interactive multistakeholder discussion on the key topics that the Global Mechanism should address, including UN cyber norms, capacity building, international law, or cybersecurity threats.
The discussion will begin with a short state‑of‑play update on the discussions, followed by an initial panel featuring perspectives from Member States, civil society, and industry. The floor will then open to participants and the wider multistakeholder community attending the event for an interactive exchange. Participants will be invited to actively engage in the discussion on the substantive topics they believe should shape the work of the Global Mechanism.
Participants and attendees are strongly encouraged to share their views, ask questions, and actively contribute to the discussion. Inputs from the exchange will feed into a set of recommendations to the UN Global Mechanism on cybersecurity.
The session will be moderated by Angel Alonso, Coordinator of the LetsTalkCyber Initiative, and will feature a diverse panel of experts from the multistakeholder community including Member States, civil society, and industry.
Confirmed speakers for the initial panel include:
- Julia Rodríguez Acosta, Counsellor, Permanent Mission of El Salvador to the United Nations
- Julien Sylvestre Fleury, Senior Policy Officer, Canada’s International Cyber and Emerging Technology Policy Division
- Dr. Grace Githaiga, CEO, KICTANet
- Joyce Hakmeh, Associate Fellow, International Security Programme, Chatham House
