Cybercrime Treaty Negotiations Delayed Until Further Notice due to COVID19 Omicron Variant
In light of the spread of the Coronavirus Omicron Variant across the globe, on 20 January 2022, the United Nation’s General Assembly decided to postpone the first session of the Ad Hoc Committee to Elaborate a Comprehensive International Convention on Countering the Use of Information and Communications Technologies for Criminal Purposes (Cybercrime Treaty), which was scheduled to take place in-person in New York from 17 to 28 January. The General Assembly further decided that the Ad Hoc Committee would hold a one-day meeting in New York to address organizational matters for the conference before 28 February 2022 and hold its first negotiation before 18 April 2022. If health conditions and space do not permit a meeting in New York before April, negotiation sessions will be held in May 2022 in Vienna, Austria. More information and updates can be found on the Ad Hoc Committee’s official webpage.
